Description

The controller plays a pivotal role in driving the financial health and strategic direction for a cohort of companies with shared ownership and is responsible for managing finances, creating financial strategies, managing tax compliance, reporting financials to the Boards, and forecasting. This individual reports to the Presidents and is a key leadership position responsible for establishing comprehensive financial strategies, objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure sustained fiscal stability across the organizations. Additionally, the controller oversees the accounting department, oversees benefits and software implementations, supervises semi-monthly payroll processes, approves checks for accounting issuance, manages retirement plans and enrollment, prepares and/or oversees sales commissions and Provider payments for monthly payroll, and actively participates in management meetings. Through expert financial acumen, this role will contribute to the continued success and growth of the organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight and Strategy:

  • Monitor and assess the financial well-being of the organizations, tracking transactions, investments, and business agreements impacting financial outcomes.
  • Offer strategic counsel on capital financing options to support the growth demands of the companies.
  • Cultivate and advance the Open Book Management (Great Game of Business) financial concept within the teams.
  • Educate teams on revenue and cost drivers, devising relevant reports for efficient tracking.

Leadership and Operations:

  • Lead the financial mission of the organizations, setting tasks, motivating team members, and clarifying goals.
  • Interact with and support internal groups and/or departments in finance related issues maintaining an atmosphere of camaraderie and cooperation.
  • Oversee day-to-day functions, including team hiring and supervision.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and systems, adhering to accepted accounting principles.
  • Manage and provide direction to the accounting team, assessing technical, professional, and system needs ensuring proper levels of support and balanced workloads.
  • Coordinate, conduct, and/or review bimonthly and monthly payroll runs ensuring accuracy and timely submission.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Coordinate the preparation and review of regular financial reports.
  • Collaborate with contracted CPA firms engaged with the companies.
  • Prepare and coordinate tax schedules, returns, and tax related issues for companies and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, local, payroll, property, and other applicable taxes.
  • Manage all financial and business-related regulatory reporting requirements with local, state, and federal agencies and/or entities.
  • Manage cash flow analysis and reporting effectively.

  • Uphold a commitment to integrity and confidentiality, aligning with patient privacy (HIPAA) guidelines.
  • Execute tasks as required and assigned in alignment with the role's scope and responsibilities.

Qualifications: To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties and responsibilities accurately and efficiently. The following requirements represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or accounting is required.
  • CMA certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of managerial financial management and accounting experience is required.
  • Proficient in handling activity-based project costing within service businesses.
  • Adaptability to operate effectively within two environments.
  • Intermediate skill level in computer software and telephone technologies.
  • Intermediate ability to evaluate, implement, and operate software systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Enthusiastic, personable, and customer service-oriented, with a strong initiative and self-starting mentality.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet construction and data analysis.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make formal presentations.
  • Effective communication, listening, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple functions and maintain strong organizational skills.
  • Possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain current automobile insurance, periodically verified by the auto policy provider.
  • Maintain eligibility for employment with government programs per OIG list.
